A project from my time working at Crispin Porter + Bogusky to design the iOS companion app for a portable charging solution for mobile devices named Upp. Upp is intended to conveniently power and charge all your compatible hand-held electronic devices via USB. By connecting the Upp fuel cell to a replaceable Upp fuel cartridge the user has instant access to charging where ever they are.
The Upp App was designed to be an integral part of the product experience. The Upp fuel cell was designed to communicate its status through the device that was connected to rather than having a screen or display itself. The Upp app gives the user access to a wealth of fuel cell stats and interactive charging data, creates convenient ways to get more fuel cartridges, connects you to other Upp users, and records your personal energy journey in your personal profile.
During this project I was involved in initial concepting, led the UX design of the application and digital ecosystem, conducted user testing, and worked closely with the both the client and internal tech teams to understand needs and constraints. The app never made it to light in its imagined state due to time and budgetary constraints. It was eventually released as a shadow of originally envisioned self.
Try out an interactive prototype that I built here.
