White Ash
The most conceptual piece of furniture that I have made. A low slung lounge chair in form and an exploration of trust and comfort in purpose. Every contact surface of the chair is constructed of extremely cantilevered slats. This provides a surprisingly comfortable and responsive sitting position for a piece made of solid wood. However the cantilevered seat, back and arms give the ‘sitter’ moments of forced trust and mental discomfort the first time that he sits down.
This chair began a number of interesting discussions and reflections upon the levels of trust that we place in furniture, sometimes without thought and the depth of ‘personality’ that can be imbued into something as common as a chair.
